Norma C. O'Brien

Norma C. Cirulli O’Brien, 90, of Cicero, passed away at her home on Saturday, January 7, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rochester to the late Cesare and Rose (Ciafardini) Cirulli, she was a graduate of Rochester Schools. She married Patrick J. O’Brien on September 9, 1961, and together they enjoyed many years of vacations and travel, more than twenty winters in The Villages in Florida, many with her sister Elia (Lee) and brother-in-law, Joe. Norma retired as a payroll specialist from the US Air Force in 1984, at the time of the Hancock Air Force Base closing. For years she was a frequent volunteer for North Area Meals on Wheels (NAMOW), was a member of Bishop Curley Council 191 Columbiettes and a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church. In later years she enjoyed several seasons of plays and shows at the Merry Go Round Theater in Auburn, NY. With her friends, she loved Friday luncheons and games of Mahjong. Her greatest joy was time with her family, especially her granddaughters, and for many years weekly family meals with her homemade sauce and meatballs. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Victor Cirulli in 1994, her sister, Elia (Lee) Sapienza in 2009, and by her husband of 59 years, Patrick J. O’Brien on May 3, 2020. Surviving are her son, Patrick (Liz) O’Brien, daughter, Laureen (Sam) Booth; grandchildren, Brad O’Brien, Shali (Robbie) Ashlaw, Kayla O’Brien, Samantha Booth, great granddaughter, Kinley Ashlaw, her sister, Hilda Mulay, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00PM at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse with the Columbiette Prayer Service at 6:30 pm. Prayer services will be Friday at the funeral home at 10:00AM and a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 South Main Street, North Syracuse.
