Peter Slifka Jr.

Peter Slifka, Jr. August 18, 2021 Peter Slifka, Jr., 73, of North Syracuse, passed away at home on Wednesday, surrounded by his family. Born in Syracuse, he was a 1967 graduate of North Syracuse High School and served in the US Marine Corps and Reserves with the 8th Tank battalion. He retired in 1990 as a delivery driver for Sysco Foods. Peter spent 16 years as a summer resident of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. He enjoyed Antiquing, with a special interest in toys, especially 'Chalkies'. Known for his sense of humor, he was a great conversationalist and story teller. An excellent father, building tree houses and welcoming all the neighborhood children. The adored grandchildren found his lap to be a comfortable place as he rocked each and everyone of them. Predeceased by his parents, Peter and Jane E. (Merrihew) Slifka, Sr. and a sister, Cynthia Ann Withey in 2012, he is survived by his wife of 52 years, his high school sweetheart, the former Cindy Clark; seven children, David Slifka, Eric Slifka, Kimberly (George) Cavanaugh, Jennifer (Steven) Skiff, Adam (Amanda) Slifka, Sarah (Edward) Pavia and Michael (Ashley) Slifka; sisters, Rosemary (Paul) Farfaglia and Linda (Kenneth) Provost; brother-in-law, Armon Withey; thirteen grand children, Connor, Sophie, Madeleine, Noah, Nicholas, Emily, Lauren, Aaron, Lily, McKenna, Olivia, Julia and Finley and nieces and nephews. The family extends a sincere thank you to the folks from Hospice of CNY for the care provided to Peter. Due to the circumstances of Covid, unvaccinated callers are to be masked and distancing is requested for all services. Calling hours are Sunday, August 22, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse, Services are Monday, August 23 at 9:30 am at the funeral home with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Margaret's Church, Mattydale followed by burial in North Syracuse Cemetery.
