Vera S Desimone

Vera S. (DelConte) Desimone, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. A very proud lifetime resident of North Syracuse, she retired in 1997 from the administrative offices of the North Syracuse Central School District having previously worked for La-Del, Inc., and Rowell and Ryan Associates preceded by Gursky & Ryan Land Surveyors. For many years Vera has been an active volunteer in the Village of North Syracuse, including a charter member of the Friends of the Village of North Syracuse; President of the Plank Road Historical Society; originator and designer of the North Syracuse millennium time capsule (to be opened in 2050) held in the children’s room of the North Syracuse Public Library; over 25 years as Director of the music Folk Group with St. Rose of Lima Church where she was a communicant; longtime member with over 60 years of service with Bishop Curley Council #191 Columbiettes of the Knights of Columbus; recognized as “Today’s Patriot” in 2000 by the Bishop Curly Council #191, Cicero-North Syracuse Wall of Distinction in 2020, and two proclamations (June 3, 2007 & June 23, 2022) of “Vera S. Desimone Day” given by past mayors of the Village of North Syracuse. Predeceased by her parents, John and Geni (Giannubilo) DelConte; siblings, Mary Francis, Frank, Fred, Joseph, and Louise; and her loving daughter, Darlene (Desimone) Grethel in 2017, she is survived by her children, Ernest L. (Eileen) Desimone and Danette J. Desimone. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Christopher Grethel (Tia Atwood), Jeremy Grethel (Katherine Gilbert), Danielle (Mitch) Phillips, Corrine (David) Alliger, Joseph (Pamela) Desimone, Joshua Desimone (Marina Locastro), Jenaye (Chandler) Grinnell; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two of her dearest lifelong friends, Joyce (Nappa) Martin and Mary Cavallaro. Calling Hours will be on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:30 pm immediately followed by a time of remembrance and reflections at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, July 24th at 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 South Main Street, North Syracuse, followed by burial in North Syracuse Cemetery. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the St. Rose of Lima Food Pantry, 407 South Main Street, North Syracuse 13212-2811.
