Martin A. Scicchitano, 90, of North Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. He was a proud graduate of Penn State University, receiving his chemical engineering degree in 1953. After 45 years, he retired from Carrier Corp. Captain Scicchitano began his Air Force service with ROTC, serving active duty from 1954 to 1956 and concluding with reserve duty. He was a twenty year member of American Legion Post 787, Cicero. Mr. Scicchitano was a third degree member of Bishop Curley Council and a fourth degree member of Jeremiah McCarthy Assembly, Knights of Columbus. He has been inducted into the Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame with the National Champion Syracuse Cyclones Senior Softball Team. Participating in the National Sports Festival and the Empire State Games, he was a gold medalist in track. He often golfed with friends. Daily, he would gather with his Panera crew. Family was everything to him, supportive in all of their endeavors. Known as “Poppop” to his grandchildren, he was particularly attentive to all of their events. Born in Isca Sul Ionia, Catanzaro, Italy, to the late Maurizio and Rosa Scicchitano, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Anthony and Ulderico “Rico” Scicchitano. Also predeceasing him are his son, Michael Scicchitano on September 21, 2017; granddaughter, Stephanie Fabian on April 30, 2008 and his wife of 50 years, the former Mary Anne M. Duggan on March 11, 2008. Surviving are his children, Joseph A. (Jennifer) Scicchitano, Mary Frances R. (Bernard) Fabian and Stephen J. (Debra) Scicchitano; daughter-in-law, Patricia Scicchitano; grandchildren, Jennifer Fabian, Alexander, Jessica, Emily, Molly, and Maria Scicchitano and sister, Mary (Marshall "Moe") Varano. Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 6th 2022 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home and 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 8229 Brewerton Road, Cicero. Entombment follows, with military honors, in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum, Baldwinsville.
