    Robert J. Maloney, Sr. October 22, 2020 Robert J. Maloney, Sr., 88, of North Syracuse, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020. Born in Oswego, to the late Michael J. and Helen C. (LeRoy) Maloney, he was a graduate of St. Paul's Academy and Oswego High School where he was a National Guard member of High School Company M 108th Infantry. He enlisted in the Air Force and completed training at Shepard AFB, TX. He served a tour of duty in Korea with the 51st Fighter Wing under the command of Col. Francis Gabreski, the first Ace in Korea. He completed his enlistment in Loredo, TX as Line Chief of the 3640th Training Wing. Bob graduated from Oswego State Teacher's College following discharge from active duty and remained active in the Air Force Reserves with duty on NYAF Bases. While teaching, he completed graduate studies in administration and guidance from Oswego State and Syracuse University. Mr. Maloney taught ten years at Bessie Riordan Elementary, was Vice Principal of Smith Road Elementary, Principal of Lakeshore Elementary, Gillette Road Middle School and Cicero Elementary from where he retired in September 1991. He was a member of NYS Retired Teacher's Association and Retired Principal's Association. Bob was a life member of Bishop Curley Council 3717 and Jeremiah McCarthy Assembly 773, Knights of Columbus. He served on the Village of North Syracuse Ethics Committee and was a member and past treasurer of the Village of North Syracuse Democrats. He was a past member of the Lion's Club, served as a committee member for the Boy Scouts and was an American Legion and VFW member. Bob was predeceased by the love of his life, the former Genevieve Mullen on February 28, 2010. Surviving are his children, Robert J. (Gina) Maloney, II, Christopher (Tamara) Maloney and Kathleen (Matthew) Jacoby; sister, Mary Eleanor Brennick; grandchildren, Ericka Maloney, Christopher (Samantha) Maloney, Jr., Elizabeth Jacoby, Kathleen Jacoby, Ashley Jacoby and Cody Jacoby; a great grandson, Christopher, III; a niece, Michelle Kripps and a nephew, Michael Brennick. Calling hours will be Monday, October 26th from 4 to 7 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 27th, at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse followed by burial, with military honors, in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Moyer's Corners. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to St. Rose of Lima Church, 409 South Main Street, North Syracuse, 13212 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005
