In Loving Memory of Captain Ashley Peppers (January 30, 1978 - March 1, 2024) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Captain Ashley Peppers, aged 46, on March 1, 2024, at the Veteran’s Administration Medical Center. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, to Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Miley C. Peppers, Jr. and the late Azalee Lee Peppers, Capt. Ashley Peppers’ life was one of service, leadership, and family. Educated in Petersburg's public schools, Capt. Peppers was a graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1992. An active athlete, he played baseball, basketball, and soccer, and was well-regarded for his leadership qualities. He continued his education at Old Dominion University, earning a degree in English Literature. Capt. Ashley Peppers was a natural leader who dedicated his life to serving his country. As a company commander in the US Army’s 1st Combined Arms Battalion and 63rd Armor Regiment, he exhibited exceptional bravery and leadership during his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and also served with honor in the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum. His military accolades are a testament to his courage and dedication. After 10 years of service in the United States Army, he was honorably discharged and placed on the active reserve roster and later earned a Master of Social Work from Syracuse University. Beyond his military career, Capt. Ashley Peppers was a man of immense heart dedicating himself to his family. A devoted husband to Dr. Lori Peppers, and loving father to their three children, Shaun Xavier, Alycia Jade, and Hailey Azalee, he instilled in them the values of kindness, hard work, and integrity. His brother, Dr. Miley Craig Peppers, III. and sister-in-law Monica Lozano Caldera will also carry forward his legacy of service, generosity, and family. A man of spiritual faith, Capt. Ashley Peppers was involved in various communities, spreading goodwill and kindness wherever he went. His fraternity brothers of Phi Beta Sigma, Inc., will also remember him for his steadfast camaraderie and spirit. Capt. Ashley Peppers’ cooking skills and his passion for education and enjoying life shaped not only his children but also those families around him. His advice was always from the heart, making everyone feel safe and cherished. As we bid farewell to a man of dignity and strength, we invite you to join us in a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 9th, from 5 to 7 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. While the burial and military honors will be private, the memories and influence of Capt. Ashley Peppers will forever be public in our hearts. In lieu of flowers and donations, and echoing Capt. Ashley Peppers’ own words, we ask that you honor his memory by committing to “Be Kind and Do the Right Thing.” Capt. Ashley Peppers’ departure leaves us with heavy hearts, but his spirit of service and the joy he brought to life remain a beacon for all of us. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire us all.
