John Francis Skibitski Jr.

John F. Skibitski, Jr. 63, of Cicero, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, after a long-fought battle with cancer. He was born in Syracuse, NY on November 13, 1961, to Elaine M. and John F. Skibitski, Sr. John graduated from Cicero High School and Tompkins Cortland Community College. He spent his career working in the fire protection and security industry with Notifier of NY, Simplex Time Recorder, ABJ Fire Protection Co., ADT Security Services, Washinton Street Partners as well as the NYS Office of General Services and the NYS Department of Mental Health. John will be remembered for his stealthy mastery of delivering a dry-toned, unexpected verbal zinger. He was a hot rod car enthusiast and spent many hours with his fellow motorhead friends working on his prized 1970 Chevelle. His ability to say something completely inappropriate at the most appropriate time will be missed. John is survived by his mother, Elaine M. Skibitski of Cicero, NY; sisters, Susan M. (Arthur) Casey of Canton, CT and Jacqueline A. (Thomas) Grant of Skaneateles, NY; his much beloved nephews and nieces, Matthew A. (Megan) Casey, Brian K. (Emily Skodis) Casey, Megan E. (Philip Becker) Casey, Jillian E. Casey, Maxwell T. (McKenzie Franck) Grant, Alexandra L. Grant and Daniel F. Grant; and great(est) niece, Casey Jane Becker. He was predeceased by his father, John “Frank” Skibitski, Sr. John’s family would like to thank the Upstate Cancer Center; Rahul Seth, MD; Emily Albert, MD; North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp.; and the compassionate staff at the Cottages at Garden Grove and the comfort they provided. Calling hours will be Wednesday, August 6th, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Thursday, August 7th, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Rome, NY. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to be made in John’s name to either the North Area Volunteer Ambulance Corp. at www.NAVAC.org or the Upstate Cancer Center at www.upstatefoundation.org.
