Maurice Joseph Eichhorn

Maurice Joseph Eichhorn, 95, of North Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to the late Frank and Helen (Glaser) Eichhorn, he was second eldest of their seven children. On May 26, 1956, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth Povailitis; affectionately known as Betty. They lived in Vestal, NY, and moved to North Syracuse in 1970, where they raised their five beautiful children. After graduating from High School, he worked at a bread bakery until he joined the Coast Guard where he proudly served from 1951-1954 as Engineman 3rd class. After the service, he attended Broome Technical Community College. Maurice worked as an engineer and draftsman for multiple companies including General Electric. In later years, he was a custodian for the North Syracuse Police Department and for St. Rose of Lima Church. His greatest joy for over 30 years was singing in the St. Rose choir. In his early years, Maurice was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, riding his motor bike, and cook outs at the beach. He was always reminiscing about his childhood adventures. We love you and miss you lots. In addition to his parents, Maurice was predeceased by his siblings, Francis, Helene, and Carl; his daughter, Rosemary Ostrowski in 2023; and his wife, Betty, March 1, 2025. Surviving are his children, Lawrence (Brenda), John, Catherine (Dan) Williams, and Ruth June; son-in-law, Michael Ostrowski; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda (Nicholas), Brian, Christopher (Lauren), Michelle, Kristen (Zack), Trevor (Dena), Matthew, and Lauren; great grandchildren, Hayleigh, MacKenzie, Dylan, Andrew, Konrad, Morgan, and baby, June, arriving soon; siblings, Bernard, Jerome, and Theresa Biebel; and several nieces and nephews. The family extends a sincere thank you to the kind staff of the Cottages at Garden Grove. Calling hours will be Friday, May 8th from 8:30 am to 10 am at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday at 10:30 am at St. Rose of Lima Church with burial following in North Syracuse Cemetery.
